If you’re passionate about intercultural communication and want the credentials to teach English anywhere in the world, a degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is right for you. Goshen College is one of the few colleges in the United States to offer a TESOL major, minor and K-12 teaching license. Our TESOL major emphasizes the importance of a global perspective, the power of language and the ability of story to connect people.
At GC, you’ll learn about linguistics, education and intercultural studies, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain real-world tutoring and teaching experience. Paired with an education degree, GC’s TESOL program will give you the necessary skillset and license to work with English language learners at the elementary or secondary level. In addition, you’ll get to travel abroad through our semester-long Study-Service Term to a developing country and teach English. TESOL graduates have landed English teaching jobs all over the globe: in U.S. public schools, adult education centers, and in schools from Paraguay to Egypt to Japan.
Armarlie Grier, a 2016 graduate of English writing from Rockford, Illinois, calls herself a xenophile—a person who is attracted to foreign cultures. That’s why she minored in international studies, philosophy and TESOL.
Edgar Saucedo attended Goshen College as an undergraduate student and earned a B.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In 2014, he earned a Master of Arts in Intercultural Leadership at GC.
