Ask about access services if…
- You are an enrolled GC student with a documented learning disability, physical or sensory impairment, or psychiatric disability
- You had modifications in high school through and I.E.P or 504 plan (colleges don’t have I.E.P.s or 504 plans, but these documents can help begin our conversation)
- You suspect you may have a learning disability and want to explore your options
Requesting Services at Goshen College:
To be eligible to receive accommodations, a student must have an obvious (visible) disability or provide an educational evaluation completed by a licensed professional, preferably within the last three years. This documentation will be kept on file in the ASC office.
Services:
- Helping students advocate for themselves as they discuss their disability and request accommodations
- Specialized advising with the Director of the ASC. Please make an appointment prior to finalizing your registration to review your course load
- Test proctoring for students with testing accommodations
- One-to-one peer tutoring is available to students with documented learning disabilities
- Coordinating the delivery of academic accommodations and auxiliary aids
- Support and training on assistive technologies such as screen readers and accessibility features on your laptop and iPad
Accommodations may include the following:
- Extended time in taking tests
- A test-taking environment with limited distractions
- In very limited circumstances, a different testing format
- Use of computers for assignments and tests
- Using a laptop for taking notes in class
- Note takers, readers and computer assistance
- Assistance in obtaining texts in alternate formats

Service Animal Policy
Service Animals are animals specifically trained to assist people with disabilities in the activities of daily living. The Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended) defines a service animal as “an animal that does work or performs tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability (including psychiatric, cognitive and mental).”
